Thank you, I appreciate your knowledge - now I must get ready for Church because Jesus is the reason for my repeater and everything else...

I would use the DB-420 as is.  I have three of them in service with SWR below 1.7

The antenna is specified to have 1.5 or below at the designed frequency.  I think you will find that you will be pleased with the performance and it will outperform the Hustler you were using.

Subject: Antenna question from KG8ID

Hey Richard,

We have been hearing static and seeing the SWR gradually going up on our top repeater antenna (Hustler Spirit Series radome), the wireless company had a climber go up for maintenance and we asked him to check the antenna jumper, the connector center pin on the antenna end was blackened, the lightning surge we took last year either entered or exited the antenna and we set out find a replacement for the top antenna, I have a DB420 that I acquired from a business band system, the antenna is in great shape as well as the harness, we set it on a short pipe in the stake pocket of a truck and tested the SWR right off the repeater, we observed 57.5 out and 4.5 reflected for a ratio of 1.8:1, not real bad for a antenna probably tuned for a center of 460Mhz, I asked some knowledgeable RF guys and they say install it as is, one said testing it so close to the truck and the ground may have raised the SWR a little, I found out that most say this antenna is the best repeater antenna compared to all others, the RF people also said if the SWR was a problem either lower the output power or install a circulator/isolator, what is your take on this?
